The privacy of your data, and it is your data, not ours, matters to us. This policy explains what information mojiplace ("the Service", operated by mojiplace.com, "we", "us", "our") collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We never sell your personal information.
Account information. mojiplace has no password of its own. You sign in entirely through Google. When you sign in for the first time, we receive a stable Google account identifier and use it to create your mojiplace account. We do not receive or store your email address or any other Google profile data.
Your handle. The first time you sign in, you choose a handle (for example
@yourname). It cannot be changed once claimed. Your handle is public: it is
shown on every tile you place, and it is the address of your personal canvas
(mojiplace.com/u/yourhandle).
The canvas itself is public, attributed content, not private data. Every emoji you place (where, when, and under which handle) is recorded permanently and shown publicly to anyone using mojiplace. This is not incidental logging. Permanent public attribution is how mojiplace works and how it keeps people accountable for what they place, so, unlike most of the data below, it is not something we can make private or erase on request. See "Data retention and deletion" below.
Personal canvas. Claiming a handle automatically creates your personal canvas. Its centre is yours alone to fill; its border can be placed on by other people, not you. Everything on it, including what other people place on your border, is public in the same way as the shared canvas.
Placement economy data. To run the placement pool, we store your current balance, when it last topped up, whether you've received your one-time starting grant, and a running count of your total placements.
Anonymous use. If you place emoji without signing in, we record your IP address together with a running count of your anonymous placements, so we can enforce the five-placement anonymous limit. We keep this for as long as the limit applies to that address, since the limit is lifetime, not per-session.
Supporter subscriptions (Patreon). Supporter membership is purchased and managed entirely through Patreon. We never receive or store your card or payment details. If you link a Patreon account, we store the Patreon account identifier permanently. It is matched only against the one mojiplace account you first linked it to, which closes off sharing a single Supporter membership across multiple mojiplace accounts. We also store a cached record of your current membership/tier status, which we check periodically against Patreon on your behalf. We do not store any Patreon access token that could act on your Patreon account after that check. Status is verified using a single mojiplace-side credential against Patreon's own records, not anything issued to you personally.
Server logs. Like most online services, our servers may automatically record technical information such as IP address, browser type, and request times. We use this to operate the Service, diagnose problems, and protect against abuse and fraud.
We do not use third-party advertising networks, behavioral tracking, or third-party analytics on the Service.
mojiplace uses exactly one cookie.
Separately, your browser's own local storage keeps a few things only on your device: your default emoji skin tone, your recently used emoji, and any placements you've staged but not yet committed. None of this is sent to us. It never leaves your browser, and clearing it only resets those local conveniences.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share information only:
Everything you place on the canvas, and everything placed on your personal canvas's border, is already visible to the public by design. That is not "sharing" in the sense above. It is the Service itself.
mojiplace does not proactively review or moderate individual placements. We do hold an emergency administrative override that can freeze the entire canvas or blank a rectangular area, used only to contain serious abuse (for example, a coordinated raid), not as a routine moderation tool.
There is currently no self-service way to delete your mojiplace account. Contact us at [email protected] and we will handle your request by hand.
Because permanent public attribution is core to how mojiplace works (see "Information we collect" above), a deletion request can remove your sign-in link and Patreon link, so the account can no longer be used to sign in or place. It cannot remove your handle or anything already placed under it: your handle, your personal canvas, and every tile you placed will remain visible, in the same way they would if you simply stopped using the Service. This is not a limitation we can lift on request; it is the accountability mechanism the whole canvas depends on, applied equally to everyone.
Anonymous placement counters tied to an IP address are kept for as long as the anonymous limit applies to that address.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS), and the session cookie is signed and HTTP-only so it cannot be read by client-side scripts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to respond quickly if a problem arises.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We operate the Service from The Netherlands. If you access the Service from elsewhere, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in that jurisdiction, which may have different data protection laws than your own. By using the Service you understand that your information may be processed there.
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
